Collective Library at AMRA

A Social Reading Lounge for Interaction, Culture, and Shared Experience

The Collective Library within the Amra Project by Citi Developers is conceived as a relaxed, lounge-oriented environment that reinterprets the traditional library as a space for social interaction, shared learning, and cultural exchange. Complementing the more introspective Silent Library, this space encourages users to gather, engage, and experience reading within a more informal and welcoming atmosphere.

Blending the qualities of a library and a café, the Collective Library functions as a contemporary social hub where users can read, work, or simply spend time together. The integration of a coffee bar, comfortable seating, and flexible work areas transforms the space into an inviting environment that supports both leisure and intellectual engagement.

A Central Hub Within the Spatial Organization

Strategically positioned as the heart of the floor, the Collective Library acts as a central meeting point connecting surrounding functions. It is designed to accommodate a variety of everyday scenarios -from informal meetings and casual reading to social breaks and waiting moments- making it a highly adaptable and user-oriented environment.

At the core of the space lies its defining architectural feature: a sunken circular seating area, inspired by the form of an amphitheater. This central element serves as both a spatial anchor and a social platform, organizing the surrounding functions while establishing a strong identity for the library.

Encircling this core, a continuous arched bookshelf creates a semi-enclosed boundary, offering a sense of intimacy while maintaining visual openness. Around this central zone, different functions -including lounge seating, communal tables, and the coffee bar- are distributed in a radial layout. This configuration allows the central space to both connect and subtly define the surrounding areas, creating a cohesive spatial experience.

A Platform for Collective Experience

The sunken amphitheater is conceived as an active and flexible social platform. It supports a wide range of activities, such as book discussions, reading groups, and informal talks on art, culture, and philosophy. The space can also accommodate small-scale performances or events, reinforcing its role as a dynamic cultural node within the project.

This adaptability allows the Collective Library to function not only as a reading space but also as a community-oriented environment, where knowledge is shared, discussed, and experienced collectively.

Materiality and Atmosphere: Warm and Intimate

The material palette of the Collective Library is intentionally distinct from the Silent Library, adopting darker wood tones and deeper color hues to create a more intimate and lounge-like atmosphere. This shift in material expression enhances the sense of comfort and encourages users to relax and spend extended time within the space.

Wooden parquet flooring introduces warmth and tactility, while a perforated metal ceiling contributes to both the visual identity and acoustic performance of the environment. This integrated approach ensures that the space remains comfortable for conversation without the need for additional acoustic interventions.

Lighting design further supports this atmosphere, with a softer and more subdued approach that prioritizes ambient comfort over task-oriented brightness. The result is a balanced environment that feels calm, inviting, and socially engaging.

Layered Details and Sensory Experience

The spatial quality of the Collective Library is enriched through carefully curated elements that enhance both visual depth and user comfort. Integrated bookshelves with warm backlighting create a soft glow, while artistic wall compositions and patterned surfaces add character and identity.

The inclusion of indoor plants introduces a sense of freshness and balance, softening the overall environment. Comfortable sofas and lounge chairs reinforce the relaxed nature of the space, inviting users to linger.

A distinctive design feature is the combination of contemporary furniture with traditionally patterned rugs, creating a refined dialogue between modern and familiar elements. This layered approach adds richness to the interior while maintaining a cohesive design language.

A Cohesive Social Environment

The central amphitheater, framed by the arched bookshelf, is further enhanced through integrated lighting and curated decorative elements. Books, objects, and artistic details are thoughtfully arranged to create a visually unified and immersive environment.

Every component -from material selection and lighting to furniture and spatial organization- works together to support a consistent identity that balances comfort, functionality, and aesthetic clarity.

Redefining the Contemporary Library

The Collective Library at Amra Project represents a contemporary approach to library design, where interaction, flexibility, and community are placed at the forefront. Moving beyond the traditional notion of quiet and isolation, it offers a space where people can gather, exchange ideas, and engage with knowledge in a more social and accessible way.

By combining architectural clarity with a warm and inviting atmosphere, the Collective Library becomes more than a place to read, it evolves into a living social space that supports connection, creativity, and shared cultural experiences.
